Jeff Quilty was born in Corner Brook, Newfoundland & Labrador (Canada) to Randy and Sadie (Power) Quilty.
Jeff became interested in music at a young age. He got his first accordion as a Christmas gift at eight years of age (1977) and taught himself to play it by ear. He played mostly for family, at school and at Boy Scouts and Cubs. His main interest was in playing traditional Newfoundland music. He also enjoyed singing and was a member of the choir while attending Sacred Heart Elementary in Curling, Newfoundland.
During junior high (1980’s) Jeff was a member of the school band (French Horn) and later joined the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets (R.C.S.C.C. Curling) where he became a member of the marching band (played bugle, trumpet and tuba). Most summers in the eighties were spent at HMCS Acadia (Sea Cadet Training Establishment) at Canadian Forces Base Corwallis, Nova Scotia as a member of the Senior marching band. This band also gave regular concert performances throughout the summer where Jeff would sing a few selections as a soloist. He would also play the accordion and sing traditional Newfoundland Songs at variety concerts that were held throughout the summers.
Jeff learned to play guitar by ear in early 1990’s which widened his repertoire for singing and playing solo. He mostly enjoyed playing for kitchen parties and shed parties but later started to perform publicly as a solo act and with others.
Jeff currently lives in Rocky Harbour, NL with his wife Tracy and their two children Jenna and Ryan. His day job there is a Laboratory and X-Ray Technologist. He feels quite blessed to be living in such a beautiful place (within Gros Morne National Park of Canada) and has enjoyed entertaining there in his spare time since 2002. He has a passion for his home province of Newfoundland and Labrador which is evident in his music and performances. Jeff has just recently finished recording his first CD “Long Way Home” which will be available to the public in August 2009.
